NYSLC Needs Your Help
Please Contribute This Holiday Season!

The recidivism rate for incarcerated youth is seventy percent. The recidivism rate for those participating in NYSLC's programs while incarcerated is fifty percent have not been rearrested in two years.

This year NYSLC is building upon this success and concentrating on transition back into our community. We are asking you to contribute to our transition initiative, How To Get From Here to The Rest of The World" (title from "The Wire)" for selected inmates upon release. NYSLC is applying the history, knowledge, and strengths of its programs to address a community wide problem: transition from incarceration back into the community.

Please donate. These programs can can change lives. In them we find ourselves able to express our feelings.

Demetrius, Monroe Correctional Facility

"Ho to Get From Here to The Rest of The World"  began with many inmates asking about a NYSLC program upon release. It is a big challenge to find any strength based programs to connected disconnected inmates to a positive experience in our community in which they know little about beyond their own neighborhoods.

The problem is I am being released from custody, and I won't be able  to participate any more. It surprised me that a wonderful organization is only in the jail and the correctional facility. NYSLC gives us an opportunity to learn, to have fun, and to express our feelings all at the same time.

DeShunte, Monroe Correctional Facility

NYSLC's success, requests from the inmates, and Rochester's documented "prison to prison pipeline" are at the core of this partnership with the Office of The Sheriff, County of Monroe, and many community spaces.

NYSLC's programs unlocked the chains in my mind and unleashed a light that I want to become someone. I want to make something of myself.

And we are asking for your contributions!

NYSLC is grateful to the individuals, foundations, and the New York State Council on the Arts who make our programs possible.
